Exploration works

Exploration works in Belarus are carried out by the Department of Oil and Gas Geological Exploration Works, the Department for Field Seismic Exploration Works (DFSEW), Svetlogorsk Department for Drilling Works (SDDW) and Byelorussian Research and Design Oil Institute (BelNIPIneft) .

Resource base
As of January 1, 2008 there have been discovered 71 oil fields. The initial potential of recoverable oil resources of Belarus comprises 332.2 conventional units (cu/s), including 274.1 cu/s (83.3%) of the northern structural zone of the Pripyat downfold. The scope of exploration of the resources as a whole in its northern area constitutes 64.3%. The scope of development of total oil resources constitutes 35.1%, and in the northern area – 42.6%. The residual recoverable oil reserves make 32.5 cu/s, active reserves — 32.5 cu/s. The unexplored oil resources and reserves of the Pripyat downfold make 155.5 cu/s.

Provision of works
To ensure efficient integration of traditional methods and approaches in prospecting, probing and development of oil fields with modern computer technologies, the Enterprise is employing a powerful computer complex designed for integral processing of geological and geophysical data and covering the whole complex of works, from processing of seismic prospecting data to simulation of oil field development. The basic unit of application software of the computer complex includes projects of such companies as Schlumberger, Paradigm Geophysical, GEOVERS.

Oil exploration activities:
• processing and interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic prospecting survey data, including regions with complex seismic conditions;
• geologic and geophysical accompaniment of drilling;
• mapping of various parameters and scales (depth, tî, DÍ, DÒ and seismic parameters);
• processing and interpretation of results of well geophysical studies, obtained by domestic and foreign well-logging equipment;
• regional and local evaluation of prospects of oil-and-gas content of the sedimentary cover and crystalline basement including numerical forecast of commercial oil-and-gas content of local exploratory prospects using know-how;
• 3D geologic simulation of oil-and-gas fields;
• calculation of oil and gas reserves;
• round-the-clock geological accompaniment of drilling in real-time mode;
• creation of geological, geophysical and commercial data banks.

Seismic surveying
Seismic survey works at “Belorusneft” enterprise are carried out by the Department for Field Seismic Exploration Works (DFSEW). Its professionals successfully work in Belarus, Russia, Iran and Venezuela.

Types of DFSEW activities
Designing of 2D and 3D seismic prospecting works is performed on modern hardware complexes with the use of the latest versions of Mesa software. Special attention is given to creation of digital models of the objects. While designing projects of 3D surveys, methodologies which allow obtaining high tracing ratio of target horizons and the broadest spectra of azimuths and offsets combined with high process efficiency and productivity, are implemented.

GPS Pro XR satellite navigation systems are used for survey support of seismic prospecting works.

2D and 3D field seismic survey works are carried out with explosive and non-explosive sources of seismic signals under a reliable navigation of reception and excitation points of seismic signals and a continuous multistage quality control of received information. DFSEW has SN388, 408UL and 428XL telemetering complexes with the field equipment for 7000 seismic channels, including two SN-388 telemetering complexes with field equipment for a total of 3000 seismic channels including 600 three-component DSU-3 receivers. The accuracy of survey navigation is guaranteed by the use of GPS systems during production, both in real time mode and during post-processing.

Home-made vibration sources ÑÂ 30/120Ì and explosions in boreholes ÑÂ 18/120 are used as signal sources. Shothole drilling is carried out with URB-2À-2 and URB-4Ò stations. To detonate explosion shells Pelton synchronizing systems are used equipped with GPS systems.

Studies carried out by means of VSP (vertical seismic profiling) method are conducted in prospecting and commercial wells.

A multistage quality monitoring system includes control of design, seismic prospecting works, realized in the form of permanent supervision of the technical conditions of the equipment.

State Production Association “Belorusneft” proposes:
 — joint realization of seismic works with provision of equipment and key staff;
 — topographical and geodesic services;
 — provision of quality control system for field seismic works for a customer;
 — supervision.
